During a trip to Japan, artist Pascale Bourguignon was struck by the Japanese culture, especially by the different restraints applied to the human body and to nature.

Seeing these huge mesh structures that keep the mountains from falling onto the roads and these trees sculpted by human restrictions, the artist perceives a wholesome duality between rigidity and respect towards nature. Through this concept, the artist conveys her poetic outlook through pictorial work combining sculpture, drawing and photography.

In her work Contention, she hopes to present a personal transposition of this alleged natural affinity between woman and nature, an affinity condemned by ecofeminists. The exhibition therefore draws inspiration from this poetic ambiguity to make us visualize or understand our own limitations.
